Help

Setup, account switching, and troubleshooting.

First setup

  1. Install the app, then open Shannanigans from Applications. It lives in the menu bar.
  2. Let important agents finish before saving or switching a login. Save Current Login briefly quits and reopens the desktop app.
  3. Choose Discover Accounts to find local account stores. Discovery alone does not save a working login.
  4. Choose Save Current Login for the account currently signed in to the desktop app.
  5. Use Add Account, switch to it, and sign in through the desktop app itself. Then choose Finish Sign-In in Shannanigans.

Repeat for each account. Accounts are identified by email.

When an account runs out

  1. Finish or stop the active agents you care about.
  2. Click an account, or choose Next. Next selects the most-used eligible alternate account that still has session and weekly quota.
  3. Shannanigans asks the desktop app to quit gracefully, backs up session metadata, activates the saved login, and reopens it.
  4. Open your local Code conversation and resume it. An interrupted running agent does not resume itself.

If the desktop app refuses to quit or takes too long, switching stops before rotating the profiles. Shannanigans does not force-kill it.

100% is a usage reading, not a shutdown order. The desktop app may keep working for a while. Shannanigans never switches automatically at a threshold.

What the numbers mean

Session used % / weekly used %. Not remaining. The weekly reset date and countdown are shown per account.

Enable Live Usage for authenticated read-only checks. Background refreshes run about once a minute. Without it, Shannanigans reads the desktop app's local cache and labels the result as cached. Failed, expired, or unavailable readings show as unknown; Next skips them.

Why is my Mac asking for a password?

Optional live usage checks read the desktop app's encrypted login cookies. macOS may ask permission to access the desktop app's Safe Storage item in your login Keychain. Shannanigans explains this before allowing an interactive prompt.

The password belongs to your Mac's login Keychain, usually your Mac login password. Enter it only in the macOS dialog, never into Shannanigans or this website.

Always Allow remembers access for the app. Allow or Allow Once can mean more prompts when another account is checked. Not Now leaves interactive access disabled. Background refreshes never trigger password prompts.

These are full login cookies, not narrowly scoped usage tokens. They are decrypted in memory and sent only to the service that issued them. Only usage numbers, reset times, and sanitized status are cached by the usage checker. You can leave Live Usage off.

What follows the switch?

Local coding conversations and local workspace state are the focus. Cloud Chat and Cowork histories, cloud artifacts, sidebar groups, and scheduled-task registrations remain with their original account.

Large local session and runtime directories are shared through stable links. Account-specific session metadata is synchronized. Entire multi-gigabyte profiles are not copied on every switch. The last five session backups are retained by default; saved login profiles are not pruned as backups.

Something stopped halfway

Use Recover Interrupted Switch when the app offers it. Recovery may leave the desktop app stopped so you can inspect the result.

Don't rename, unlink, or delete profile folders by hand. They contain login state and shared session links. A missing, ambiguous, or unexpected storage layout is a reason to stop, not a reason to guess.

Updating

Homebrew updates use brew upgrade --cask synestheticsystems/tap/shannanigans. Don't run two copies of Shannanigans.

Removing the app

Quit Shannanigans and remove its app bundle, or uninstall its Homebrew cask. Uninstalling deliberately leaves saved logins, backups, and session data alone.

Because the desktop app's active storage may link into shared data, deleting Shannanigans' support folder can break the desktop app or erase sessions. There is currently no automatic profile-data cleanup. Ask for help before removing that data.

Support

Email support@shannanigans.app with your macOS, desktop app, and Shannanigans versions, what you clicked, and what happened. Don't send cookies, profile folders, or unredacted session logs.
